Dating website operator Cupid has appointed former Bigmouthmedia managing director and LBi COO, Phil Gripton as its CEO.

The company, which owns a number of dating sites, has promoted Gripton from managing director of dating services, a role he has held for the past year, which saw him tasked with evolving the dating business while also developing its future strategy.

He had previously served as managing director of Bigmouthmedia, prior to its acquisition by LBi, where he became COO before leaving to join Cupid in December 2012.

George Elliot, chairman of Cupid, commented: "We are very pleased to have appointed Phil as CEO and believe that he is in a strong position to drive the business forward using his extensive and complementary skills and experiences to ensure Cupid delivers on its strategy. Notably, Phil's experience in Digital Marketing has helped the business improve effectiveness through changing the mix of Cupid's marketing channels."

Gripton will succeed former CEO and co-founder of the business, Bill Dobbie, from 1 December, with Dobbie set to become a non-executive director.
