Billington Cartmell Group has announced the appointment of Simon Marshall as CEO, taking over from John Gellett.

Marshall joins from the position of managing director of The Marketing Store North America, where he was responsible for operations in both the US and Canada representing a diverse group of clients including McDonald’s, Nissan, Shell, Coca-Cola North America.

He said: “I have followed the Group for several years and am deeply impressed with the heritage of the agency but also the major progress of the last couple of years. I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to use my experience of agency leadership to help the Group achieve its ambitious plans.”

Rupert Howell, non-executive chairman of Billington Cartmell Group added: “When John joined us last year on a fixed term, we had a clear set of objectives and his remit was to drive these forward. John has certainly done this and more as 2013 has been a phenomenal year for the Group.

“We have recruited major new talent, such as Bo Hellberg as executive creative director, modernised the business, and had significant new business success. I am also delighted to confirm that John is staying on to develop an exciting new offering within the group. Simon’s role is to build on this success and take the Group through phase two.”

Previously, Marshall has also held the roles of chief executive of Publicis Dialog in the UK and director at OgilvyOne.
