Twitter reveals the biggest #DoctorWho moments on Twitter

Twitter has unveiled the biggest Doctor Who moments in terms of Twitter, with the appointment of Peter Capaldi as the 12th doctor taking the top spot.The tweet from the official Doctor Who account about the appointment in August led to over 25,000 retweets and has been favourited over 6,000 times.

The announcement of the appointment was made on the BBC, in a show which garnered about 550,000 mentions.The second most popular tweet also came from the official account, when it was officially reported that Matt Smith was stepping down from the role.There were only two other tweets which led to over 5,000 retweets: one from the official Doctor Who account naming the series finale as ‘The name of the Doctor’ and a Poptimal article on why ‘a black Doctor Who is just a prick tease’.At time of writing, Topsy analysis showed over 73,000 mentions of the #Savetheday hashtag and 74,000 using the tag #DoctorWho in the past 24 hours.
