BBC launches system to accept script submissions online for the first time
Writers will be able to submit scripts to the BBC online for the first time following the launch of BBC Writersroom’s e-submission system.
Launch: The system should make it easier for staff to deal with scripts
The BBC worked with digital design company Magnetic North to create the system, which will drastically cut handling time for staff who were previously dealing with up to 10,000 script submissions a year manually.
Kate Rowland, creative director of new writing at the BBC, said: “We’re very excited about the launch of the new e-submissions system.
“As the only broadcaster that has such an open script process, it’s vital that we stay relevant and accessible going forward.”
Sanjeev Shewhorak, technical director at Magnetic North, added: “The role that digital plays in helping discover new talent is an interesting one to us, with many possibilities, so we’ve thoroughly enjoyed developing the new submissions system with the Writersroom team.”
The e-submission system is open to film, TV drama, children’s drama, TV, radio comedy and radio drama scripts, and the newly-built interface will allow BBC staff to review scripts on iPad and Kindle devices as well as desktop, while writers will be able to track the progress of their scripts.
