Police have launched an investigation into a Brazilian website advert, apparently posted by a mother offering her baby for sale as it ‘cried too much’.

The advert briefly appeared on the exchange website OLX, before being removed for breaching the sites terms and conditions - but not before coming to the attention of law enforcement and social media users.

Inviting offers of £270 for the child the ad included a picture of the baby alongside a brief description: ‘cries a lot, won't let me sleep and I need to go to work’.

Officers tasked with investigating the case suspect it is a hoax however as the address and contact details provided by the seller do not exist but are monitoring the website and suburb where the baby is said to live.
