Amazon is seeking to strengthen its grip on British consumers with the introduction of a Sunday delivery service, designed to cope with anticipated demand during the Christmas rush.

A trial service has been launched in London for the festive period, offering an exclusive seven day delivery service to subscribers of Amazon Prime.

Working in tandem with ‘local and regional carriers from across the capital’ the move is an attempt to meet one of the primary frustrations of online shopping – arriving home from work to discover a missed delivery note from the Royal Mail requesting pick-up from a local sorting office.

This has fueled a boom in ‘click and collect’ service which allow customers to pick up their purchases in-store at a time of their choosing.

By launching their Sunday service Amazon will be hoping to corner this market by offering people the best of both worlds.
