London has seen off competition from a host of leading global cities to be named as the planets ‘talent capital’ by Deloitte.

The business advisory firm surveyed 22 professional sectors from banking to legal services and digital media to arrive at their findings, identifying 1.5m people employed in the city who have a ‘high skill’ set.

This compares favourably to New York which had just 1.2m in this demographic, 784,000 in Los Angeles and 630,000 in Hong Kong.

Official employment data showed London to be the lead employer in no less than 12 of the sectors with New York edging ahead in just seven.

What’s more London is tipped to strengthen its lead through to 2020 with a projected minimum net growth of 300,000 jobs forecast, a third of them in the high skill sector, courtesy of a rebalancing away from financial services toward media and digital.
