Argos has moved to scotch suggestions that it is preparing to abandon its £100 MyTablet device after the gadget received a savage mauling at the hands of technology critics.

Unfavourable reviews for the tablet have cited its poor screen and build quality; including a gap between the screen and body.

This coincided with an ‘out of stock’ message at many stores leading some to think that Argos was developing cold feet on the launch.

An Argos spokesman has refuted this however, saying that the low availability was due to high demand, saying: “We have been pleasantly surprised by the high levels of demand for MyTablet which have exceeded our expectations. We are talking to our supplier about how soon we can obtain stock,” she said.

“The stock situation is absolutely not down to negative reviews."

Argos’s Android powered tablet is marketed under its own-brand name of Bush but has faced stiff competition from the likes of Tesco’s Hudl, which has been selling out fast thanks to a £119 price point and better specs.

Tablets are set to be the must have item this Christmas with global shipments increasing by 36.7 per cent, totalling 34.8m in the third quarter alone.
