A boom in internet advertising is being predicted to run for several more years yet by the chief executive of internet video firm blinkx after it posted a 36 per cent revenue increase over the past six months to £69.6m.

Brian Mukherjee cited insatiable demand for smartphones and high speed internet as driving double digit growth over the next few years, fuelling a shift in advertising spending from TV to online video – leading to ‘massive opportunities for disruption’.

Commenting on the results Mukherjee said: “We find ourselves in the centre of the internet industry which is growing robustly and the video segment of that industry is growing faster than anything. Content consumption patterns are changing rapidly and we think they are irreversible and accelerating.”

Blinkx runs a video search engine, competing directly against the likes of Yahoo! Video and Google Video.
