Qantas reviewing in-flight devices policy after FAA ruling
Qantas has announced via Twitter that it is taking ‘a close look’ at the implications of the FAA ruling which clears the way for electronic devices to be used at ‘all phases’ of flight. The Federal Aviation Administration ruling permits passengers on US flights to use electronic devices during take-off and landing.During flight, phones will be allowed to remain on, but set to ‘airplane mode’ or otherwise disabled from cellular activity.Delta Air Lines has already announced that passengers may use portable electronic devices from today as a result of the ruling."We believe today's decision honors both our commitment to safety and consumer's increasing desire to use their electronic devices during all phases of their flights," Transportation secretary Anthony Foxx said in a FAA press release."These guidelines reflect input from passengers, pilots, manufacturers and flight attendants, and I look forward to seeing airlines implement these much anticipated guidelines in the near future." Qantas announced their position in response to an inquiry submitted via Twitter.
