A research project undertaken by “marketing intelligence service” Warc has concluded that global advertising spend is expected to increase by 2.2 percent next year, and by 4.4 percent by 2014.

A predicted 4.4 percent rise by 2014

The study is based on research in 12 markets.

“If forecast inflation is taken into account, global adspend is expected to rise by just +0.1% this year and by +1.7% in 2014,”Warc said, announcing the prediction.

The figures are marginally lower than predicted earlier in the year.

“These downgrades have come largely as a result of lowered expectations for key Eurozone markets as well as for the largest national ad markets, the US and China,” Warc said.

“The health of the global economy remains uncertain with business confidence shaken by the recent US government shutdown.”

It added that the four largest economies are also expected to show the biggest increases in adspend, along with correspondingly higher rates of inflation, leading to a significantly lower growth outlook in real terms.
