A problem in the manufacturing process of Dell’s Latitude 6430u Ultrabooks may have caused them to smell of cat urine, according to the company.

Smell: Users complained about the odour coming from their devices

The claim was made following users’ complaints about the stench, but Dell said the manufacturing process had been changed the problem should no longer occur.

Following an investigation, the company insisted there was no potential health issue arising from the smell and urged customers to send affected devices back to be amended.

Dell support technician SteveB was quoted by the BBC as saying: “The smell is not related to cat urine or any other type of biological contaminant, nor is it a health hazard. If you order an E6430u now, it will not have the issue.”

Some users expressed concern that the problem may have been related to plastics chemicals.
