A 28-year-old British man, named as Lauri Love, has been charged with hacking into US army, Nasa and federal agency computer systems.

Charges: Lauri Love is accused of hacking offences

Love, who is the son of a vicar and lives in Suffolk, is accused of causing “millions of dollars in losses” after stealing “massive quantities of confidential data”.

Love is alleged to have acted with another three people, two from Australia and one from Sweden, to hack into systems used by Nasa, the US Missile Defense Agency, the US army and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The 28 year old and his accomplices are accused of stealing information on more than 5,000 people and information on the “demolition and disposal of military facilities”.

According to the indictment filed in the US, Love allegedly told one of his accomplices: “You have no idea how much we can fuck with the US government if we wanted to.”

The indictment claims he described some of the information he uncovered as “really sensitive” and discussed his desire to “blow this year wide open”.

Love has been released on bail until February. The maximum penalty he faces if found guilty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.
