Loyalty card scheme Nectar has partnered with Yell.com, the local search marketing service from hibu, to launch ‘Nectar Local’, a pilot loyalty programme starting exclusively in Portsmouth from Monday 4 November.
In a bid to boost the local high street ‘Nectar Local’ invites local businesses in Portsmouth and the surrounding area to sign up to help attract and reward loyal customers. With local customers receiving two Nectar points for every £1 spent within these businesses.
The launch follows consumer research from the loyalty card which revealed that 90 per cent of its cardholders would like to collect points from local businesses and shops and 56 per cent would be more willing to shop locally more often if they could earn Nectar points.
The Portsmouth pilot sees participating businesses span five core categories – catering and hospitality; retailers; professional services, such as accountants and estate agents; personal services including hairdressers and nail salons; and trade services, such as builders and electricians.
Will Shuckburgh, Nectar managing director, said: “Nectar Local will create a whole new raft of partners and services for our customers to collect points with, while providing a unique opportunity for local businesses to affiliate with a trusted brand, provide them with a competitive edge and attract new customers in the area from the Nectar collector base.”
CEO for hibu UK Richard Hanscott added: “Partnering with Nectar is a natural step. We have had trusted relationships with small businesses in the UK for more than 45 years and this partnership enables us to give our advertisers even more opportunities to attract and reward loyal consumers in their local communities.”
So far over 100 businesses in the Portsmouth area listed on Yell.com have signed up to the trial which will run until May 2014.
