Vodafone Group appoints Play.com’s Adam Stewart as head of digital

Vodafone Group has today confirmed to The Drum that Adam Stewart is set to join the company as group head of digital.

Stewart will join from Rakuten’s Play.com, where he has held the role of marketing director since April 2011 and was nominated for The Drum Digerati.

In his new role, Stewart will lead the strategic direction for digital as a key part of the Vodafone commercial plan, and will be responsible for driving transformation through the development of digital across over 40 countries. The Drum understands that the role will cover sales, service, and social within the digital space across the group.

He has spoken before about the ‘tangible resolve’ between the high street and online commerce.

Speaking at The Drum Live about the merging world of in store and online, Stewart said: “Our view from the marketplace situation is that there is still is going to be a form of humanity and that with the consumers interact with humanity there is going to a tangible resolve in being able to look and feel products and be able to interact with humans on a face to face basis.

“Our position is not about cannibalisation but about working with the high street to offer an additional proposition that works in collaboration with that tangible high street.”

The company told The Drum that Stewart will begin his new role at the Vodafone Group on 4 November. It is not known if a replacement has been found at Play.com.
