Cristina Nicolotti Squires, the ITV news head of output and assistant editor, has replaced Geoff Hill, to become editor of Channel 5 News.

In her new role, Cristina has been tasked with leading all editorial and management areas of Channel 5 News and continuing to develop its output following the recent launch of NewsTalk Live alongside the flagship 5pm news programme.

She joins ITN’s senior management team, reporting directly to ITN CEO John Hardie, who said: “Cristina is an incredible programme-maker behind some of the most acclaimed ITN-produced output in recent years including the Royal Wedding and Diamond Jubilee specials for ITV.

“Having already clocked up almost 20 years at ITN, Cristina will bring a wealth of experience to this role and build on the fantastic work done by Geoff and his team since we began producing Channel 5 News again last year. I look forward to her flourishing in one of the most coveted editorships in TV news.”

Hill, who has been editor of Channel 5 News since 2011, has left to join ITV News.
