Lucky Central Park stencil art purchasers laughing all the way to the Banksy
Secretive urban artist Banksy has pulled off his latest stunt by setting up a stall in New York’s Central Park in which he flogged off original items of his work disguised as knock-offs at rock bottom prices.
The unassuming stall drew the attention of just three passers-by during the course of a one day only appearance, despite works worth thousands being offered for sale at just £37.50.
Purchasers included a lady who haggled a half-price sale on two small canvasses for her children and a lucky artist from Chicago who walked off with four pieces to decorate his home.
A statement on the British artist’s website read: “Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100 per cent authentic original signed Banksy canvases. Please note: This was a one off. The stall will not be there again.”
All in all Banksy earned £263 from his days work.
