Daily newspaper i has launched a campaign with Polpetto chef Florence Knight to urge people to give back to their old state schools.

i has partnered with social enterprise charity Future First to instil support within the state school community, encouraging the public to reconnect with their old school networks.

Oly Duff, i editor, said: “Public schools often invite old boys and girls back to give talks, offer career help, work experience and an insight beyond the curriculum. State schools have tended to be a bit shyer about doing that. We have a lot of readers in schools – students and staff – and education is something we’re passionate about at i. Our readers tell us they’re concerned about prospects for young people. Our Back to School campaign has been designed to encourage people from all trades to give something back to their own state schools – and inspire the future generation to create a better Britain.”

Readers can choose to offer work experience to students, hold a fundraiser, become a mentor and volunteer or donate.

Jake Hayman, CEO at Future First, said: “The ‘Back to School’ campaign is a step towards making sure that every young person, regardless of their backgrounds, has access to inspiring role models, work experience opportunities and all the coaching and mentoring they need. The i newspaper has taken the initiative to help make this happen – it's so popular amongst young people, who are the most likely to volunteer – that they are a perfect partner for Future First.”

The campaign looks to help inspire teenagers and tackle youth unemployment.
