Australian telephone network provider Telstra has announced that it is to launch a carrier aggregation device offering download speeds of up to 150 megabits per second by the end of the year on mobile devices.

Telstra's plans require comparable hardware

Telstra executive director, networks, Mike Wright said it would jump to 300 megabits per second by the end of next year.

"Beyond the end of next year we can quite clearly see 450 megabits per second on the roadmap," he said.

"Every time we blink, we have to take into account the next evolution in technology," he added.

However, he said that in order to access the speeds, users would need a dongle or WiFi hotspot that will be comparable.

South Korean providers SK Telecom, KT and LGU+ have announced plans to offer a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone with carrier aggregation technology offering speeds of 150Mbps.
