The Guardian hosts live blog for a 1951 film during its Channel 4 broadcast in a 'brave and bold experiment'
The Guardian embarked on a “brave and bold experiment” on Thursday afternoon with a live blogging event of 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still during its broadcast on Channel 4.Live blogger Stuart Heritage offered no explanation for the experiment, which left bemused readers taking to the Guardian comments section and social media to speculate. The blog began at 12.49pm, with Heritage announcing: “Good afternoon all, and welcome to a brave and bold experiment. For perhaps the first time ever, we’re doing a Film on the Box liveblog about a film that I don’t completely hate.He went on: “I’ll be back here in half an hour to start the liveblog, you’ll all ignore me because you’ve got jobs and stuff and then I’ll probably have a nap or something. I haven’t really thought that far in advance.”Heritage returned as promised to give a minute-by-minute account of the film.
