The interactive website and trailer for upcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' has been made available to the public.

The site allows users, while watching the official trailer, to comment on the trailer in real time, take 'snapshots' of their favourite scenes and read background information which pertains to certain parts of the film.

Users are also able to read comments, and look at and share snapshots taken by others.

The additional information available deals largely with biographical details of the former South African president, the country's history, and details about the film's cast and crew, including British actor Idris Elba, who took on the lead role. The most used source of information is Wikipedia, but the interactive trailer also offers links to the Mandela Foundation's website and IMDB at certain points.

The site was the result of a collaboration between The Weinstein Company - which produced the film - and creative agency Ralph, which also created a 'Quote App' which aims to offer a new way for people to engage with some of Mandela's celebrated quotations, as a 'Ralph's Blog' post explained: "This app to help Mandela fans and new converts alike bring his inspiring words to life. With gorgeous background images, Facebook photos, customizable filters, frames and fonts, users can hand select their favorite quote, then download or share to their social medium of choice."

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom premiered at the Toronto Film festival last month to positive reviews and will appear on general release 29 November.
