Breaking Bad and Modern Family win big at the Emmys
Long running television shows Breaking Bad and Modern Family have emerged as the main winners at this year’s Emmy Awards, scooping accolades for best drama and best comedy respectively.
Breaking Bad saw off stiff competition from Netflix original content in the form of House of Cards, the first online content to be nominated for such an award.
Elsewhere, Jeff Daniels was named as best drama series actor for his role as an idealistic TV anchorman in The Newsroom.
In this he was in good company with Michael Douglas similarly honoured as best actor for his performance as Liberace in ‘Behind the Candelabra’, a film which itself bagged a gong for best movie or miniseries.
Meanwhile Jim Parsons took home a trophy for top comedy acting for his role as alpha nerd Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, adding to his wins in the same category back in 2010 and 2011.
Speaking after receiving the award Parsons said: “My heart, oh my heart. I want you to know I'm very aware of how exceedingly fortunate I am.”
