Twitter has promoted UK sales director Bruce Daisley to the new role of UK managing director, as it hits 15m UK active users, and general manager for the UK Tony Wang returns to the US. Daisley, who joined the micro-blogging network from Google last year, has been driving the growth of the sales support team, with the result that hundreds of UK brands are now using Twitter’s Promoted products to reach customers. His promotion coincides with the departure of UK general manager Tony Wang, who is due to return to the US at the end of the month but will remain at Twitter's headquarters in a new role yet to be determined. Wang moved to London in 2011 to launch the London office, and played a key role in the growth of the sales support team in Europe. Wang and Daisley tweeted about the changes this morning (see embedded tweets below). The Drum understands Twitter has also bolstered its UK partnerships team, appointing The Guardian’s social media and communities editor Joanna Geary as its first news partnerships manager dedicated to working closely with news organisations. It has also appointed former BBC Sport editor Alex Trickett as sport partnerships manager. All 20 Premier League football clubs have joined Twitter, with Manchester United the final club to join this summer. The Drum understands both Geary and Trickett will join in the coming months. The appointments mark the latest in a string of new hires both in the UK and across Europe, with country directors for Spain, France and The Netherlands all recently appointed. Pepe Lopez de Ayala joined Twitter as managing director for Spain this summer, having previously worked for Google in a variety of senior roles both in Spain and Canada. Meanwhile it revealed the appointment of Hi-Media Advertising’s Olivier Gonzalez as director of Twitter, France, last week. The Netherlands has also received a new head, with former general manager for Telegraph Media Group’s online media division Marc de Vries appointed to director position. All three country directors report into newly promoted vice president of sales for Europe Ali Jafari. Jafari was sales director for Twitter for the past two and a half years, but has moved from San Francisco to the company’s Dublin office for his new role. In the UK Simon Cowell-owned Syco Entertainment's head of digital Theo Luke was appointed partner developer manager at Twitter’s strategic advertiser programme, Amplify, in the UK and EMEA.

Bruce Daisley features on the long list for The Drum Digerati, a record of the most influential figures in the UK digital industry. You can tell us who deserves to be in the Digerati by voting for the people you admire in the industry.
