YouTube has a new logo, but it’s not replacing the old one – yet

YouTube has rolled out a new logo on its social media and app platforms.

The simplified logo features only red and white: a red play button on a white screen, with a red background. It first appeared as an icon on its Android and iOS apps before being introduced to its Facebook and Twitter pages.

Its current logo is apparently being kept, but speculation is mounting that a brand-wide roll out could follow as the redesign fits with other Google brand logos, like Chrome and Google Drive.

However a statement issued to The Drum read: "Our main logo is a core part of YouTube and is not going away. We're exploring new icons for apps and other places."

When asked if YouTube worked with an agency on the design a spokesperson said they had no specifics.
