Facebook has announced changes to its platform which will make it easier for companies to run competitions, including allowing users to enter a competition by commenting on a page.

The changes which Facebook says were made ‘in order to make it easier for businesses of all sizes to create and administer promotions on Facebook’, will allow promotions to be administered on Page Timelines and in apps on Facebook.

The new changes will allow brands to collect entries by having customers message the page, comment on a post or like a post; although businesses cannot administer promotions on personal Timelines.

Pages Terms now prohibit Pages from tagging or encouraging people to tag themselves in content that they are not actually depicted in; meaning that brands cannot ask people to tag themselves in pictures of a new product in exchange for a chance to win a prize.
