Andrea Hernandez is a student at John Jay High, which has 200 cameras monitoring the campus.

She raised legal action against the school district on privacy and religious grounds, but lost her case. She is returning to school because the district has now abandoned its policy of ID tracking its students.

“We’re very confident we can still maintain a safe and secure school because of the 200 cameras that are installed at John Jay High School and the 100 that are installed at Jones Middle School,” said “Northside Independent School District spokesman Pascual Gonzalez.

“Plus we are upgrading those surveillance systems to high-definition and more sophisticated cameras. So there will be a surveillance-camera umbrella around both schools.”

John W. Whitehead, attorney for Hernandez said: “There are very few happy endings for those who stand up to the government and say ‘no more.’ Hopefully, Andrea Hernandez will prove to be the exception and will use this opportunity to continue to stand strong for freedom.”
