63% of brands have multiple Twitter accounts but 2% still have no account

Almost two thirds (63 per cent) of brands how have multiple accounts on Twitter, up from 35 per cent in 2012, research from Brandwatch has found.

In 2011, only seven per cent of brands had over one account; while 16 per cent had no account or activity.

The research discovered that Dell has the most accounts (44), with one for each department, while some companies, such as Apple, have still not embraced the platform.

Brandwatch also discovered a gap between the number of times brands in the UK and the US tweeted: In 2013, US brands tweeted on average 221 times a week, while UK brands tweeted only 30 times a week.

However, it was found that on average, the size of a brand’s Twitter team in the UK and the US is both four.
