Reebok steps into trainer campaign after Nike offers 'frustrating' response

Reebok has invited trainer campaigners Emily Hodgson and Emilie Riis to collaborate with the brand following their attempts to lobby Nike to make men’s trainers available in women’s sizes.

Campaigners: Emilie Riis and Emily Hodgson

The pair – who work at ad agency 18 Feet & Rising – launched a fantasy trainer shop called Purple Unicorn Planet last month to help build pressure on Nike to release its best men’s trainers in smaller sizes for women.

Nike met with the duo and later released a statement saying the brand found the campaign “interesting” and would “continue to work on offering new and exciting products”, but according to the Hodgson and Riis Nike offered no explanation for the limited women’s range and the response was frustrating.

Reebok then entered the frame and asked the pair to collaborate with its own team on developing its range.

Riis said: “This is a big opportunity and failing to see it means you will be missing out. We want to collaborate with a brand that is taking the shortage in the category seriously.

“It’s great to see that we’ve struck a chord with so many women round the world who feel the same way we do, and we are driven by giving them a better trained selection in smaller sizes.”

The Drum is awaiting a response from Nike.
