Former PCC director Stephen Abell appointed managing director of the Sun as it steers through 'choppy waters'
Former director of the Press Complaints Commission Stephen Abell has been appointed managing editor of the Sun.The 33-year old was a director for two of his 10 years at the PCC and left the organisation in February last year.Commenting on the appointment, the Sun’s new editor, David Dinsmore, said: “Press regulation has never been a hotter topic and it is of huge benefit to have someone of Stig’s knowledge and experience on board as we chart a course through choppy waters.”Abell added: “As someone who cares deeply about good journalism – and the future of the newspaper industry – this is an opportunity I could not refuse. I cannot wait to get started.”Abell, also known by his nickname ‘Stig’, will begin the role in September.
