American Express has stepped down as head sponsor of Tribeca Film Festival after 12 years, with AT&T announced as their replacement.

AT&T has been the sponsor of the Tribeca Film Institute’s youth screening program since 2011, however as the festival becomes more digitally led it has upped its input.

In the past the mobile giant has provided free Wi-Fi coverage in parks and solar charging stations around the city. This year it is expected to create a mobile app to track festival news and events and will host a day of free public screenings.

The full terms of AT&T’s multiyear contract have not been disclosed.

Meanwhile, American Express has become one of around 60 minor sponsors in the festival, joining the likes of Bombay Sapphire, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, and PepsiCo.

Amex has not disclosed why it has reduced its sponsorship but has said it will continue to provide cardholders with early access to tickets.
