Following the roll out of Groupon Reserve on its desktop site earlier this month, Groupon has announced it will update its mobile app to feature the service.

Initially for iPhone users, people are now able to make, view, share and modify restaurant reservations in the 10 existing Groupon Reserve markets: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Washington, DC.

In terms of overall adoption of Groupon Reserve, it has seen a double digit percentage increase in the number of restaurants on the platform but is currently unable to quantify the number of reservations, although it has been "significant."

"Since the launch of Reserve, we have seen a significant increase in bookings, and adding the capability to the Groupon mobile app will make it even easier for more customers to reserve a great dining experience at some of the best restaurants in their city," said Ben McKean, general manager of Groupon Reserve reservations.

“Reserve on mobile gives our customers even more options for great things to do wherever they are.

The move comes after Groupon found that 45 per cent of North American transactions were completed on mobile devices in March 2013, compared with only 30 per cent in March 2012.

Furthermore, the daily deals site found that North American mobile customers spend on average well over 50 per cent more than Web-only customers, which is promising for the company as more than 40 million people worldwide have now downloaded the Groupon mobile app.

Groupon plans to add Groupon Reserve functionality to Android devices and the iPad, as well as launch Reserve in more cities in the United States and key international markets.
