News that the Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a new Royal heir hasn’t just been making waves in Britain, media outlets across the globe have been sent into a tizzy of frenetic reporting that puts a distinctively national spin on the latest maternity ward goings on.

The New Zealand Herald has a front page splash noting that the ‘World welcomes Prince of Cambridge’, observing that cries of ‘hip, hip hooray’ rang out as news of the as yet unnamed heir first emerged.

TheNew York Times meanwhile led with ‘Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a boy’ and wondered at how such occasions can ‘apparently turn republicans into monarchists, however briefly, even in countries that renounced their own monarchies long ago.’

The Times of India plumped for ‘Baby boy for Prince William and wife Kate, celebrations across Britain’ as the sub-continent title labelled the stooshie a ‘Boost for Britain’.

The birth was even big news in the Far East with China Daily running with Palace: Kate gives birth to a baby boy’ to fill in readers in the rising super power of events a world away.

Finally the Australian leads with ‘Diana touch to balance Royal upbringing’ as the antipodean title explores why the Duke and Dychess of Cambridge have their work cut out giving their new son a normal upbringing.
