With HTML5 and responsive-design websites becoming an increasingly established part of the digital landscape, where does that leave apps?, asks The Economist’s senior VP, head of circulation Americas & global head of marketing and DADI Awards judge Michael Brunt.

Speaking at The Drum’s DADI Awards judging at The Groucho Club in London Brunt said the next big thing in digital would exploring the next evolution of mobile apps.

“I want to know what happens after apps. With the introduction of HTML5 and sites rendering perfectly on multiple platforms, and all different screen sizes – where does that leave us with apps? I think there will be a great merging of app and web content to something that is a hybrid of the two.”

Determining the right balance of content to suit this new wave of web-app hybrids will be a particular challenge for publishers, he added.

The interview can be viewed in the video above, while further information on the DADI Awards can be found on the official website.

Nominations for this year’s DADI Awards were announced yesterday afternoon, with Starcom MediaVest Group and Greenlight both leading with the way with seven nominations on the biggest year for entries yet.

They are followed by R/GA London with six and Carat and Blonde with five each.

This year awards are sponsored by Digilant, Exponential, Go ON UK, Green Square, Manual Link Building and Millennial Media.
