Today, the Queen gave the royal assent to make gay marriage legal in England and Wales.

To celebrate, The Drum takes a look at five ads which celebrate same-sex partnerships and marriage.

Virgin Holidays

As the parliamentary vote passed the bill for same-sex marriage back in February, Virgin Holidays and M&C Saatchi unveiled this.

Google+

Gay marriage became legal in France earlier this year...but before that, some couples were using Google Hangouts to get married by video conferencing with a Belgian mayor.

New Yorker

Bert and Ernie, the beloved Sesame Strret characters, cuddled up on the front page of the New Yorker to celebrate gay marriage in California.

GAP

GAP also celebrated the ruling In California, by tweeting this picture. Smirnoff, Marc Jacobs, MasterCard and others all celebrated through Twitter.

Ben & Jerry's

Ben & Jerry's renamed their 'Oh! My! Apple Pie!' as 'Apple-y ever after', ahead of plans to legalise gay marriage began earlier this year.
