Kate Middleton, Paul Gascoigne and Ian Brady revealed by Operation Elveden as suspected targets

Kate Middleton, Zara Phillips, Paul Gascoigne and moors murderer Ian Brady are among a list of high-profile names being contacted by police amid Operation Elveden investigations into journalists paying public officials for information, according to reports.

Reports in the Guardian reveal other names on the list including Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe, one of the killers of tot James Bulger, Jon Venables, and the family of a 15-year-old girl, Isobel Reilly, who died after a drug overdose at a London party.

Scotland Yard confirmed the suspected victims - 419 in total - were being contacted by police, while Commander Neil Basu of the Metropolitcan police said further arrests were likely to add to the tally of 70 so far.

Earlier this year, former police sergeant James Bowes admitted selling information to The Sun newspaper in 2010, while a raft of journalists and public officials are currently awaiting trial.
