Nelson Mandela's daughter hits out at 'racist element' in media coverage
Nelson Mandela's daughter Makaziwe has hit out at the media over a "racist element" in the coverage of the former South African president's deteriorating health.
Critical: 94-year-old Nelson Mandela remains in hospital
Makaziwe compared the coverage of her father's condition with that of former UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher and accused the media of a lack of respect.
"There's sort of a racist element with many of the foreign media, where they just cross boundaries," she said. "It's truly like vultures waiting when the lion has devoured the buffalo, waiting there for the last of the carcass.
"The fact that my dad is a global icon... does not mean that people can't respect privacy and dignity."
Mandela, 94, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
