A new brand has been developed to promote the city of Glasgow, featuring the line People Make Glasgow.

More than 1,500 people in 42 countries shared their views on the city with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau during the research stage, with conversations said to have exceeded 400,000 through Facebook and Twitter users worldwide during April and May.

The resulting People Make Glasgow slogan aims to draw on the shipbuilding heritage of the city as well as reflect designer Charles Rennie Mackintoch through the use of its style and colour palettes, with the photography attempting to capture the city’s personality.

The new brand has been created to reflect the character of the people within the city and to evoke “a sense of pride” explained the leader of Glasgow City Council Gordon Matheson.

“We have created something which presents a truly distinctive identity for the city and on behalf of Glasgow I would like to warmly thank all those who gave their ideas so generously.”

Glasgow City Council has committed a budget of £500,000 this financial year to develop and promote the brand in key sectors in the UK and across the world ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games taking place in the city next summer.
