A new ad has been launched by TBWA\Chiat\Day LA for No-Kill Los Angeles, an initiative from the Best Friends Animal Society.

The initiative is aiming to end the killing of healthy and treatable dogs and cats in Los Angeles shelters by the year 2017 by offering spray/neutering services.

More than 50 animal welfare organisations, city shelters and individuals - including advert star Kristin Bauer van Straten from HBO's True Blood - have signed up in support of the initiative.

In the advert, Bauer van Straten tells the story of her rescue dog, Asher. She said: "I've lived in Los Angeles for 19 years. I've volunteered at the shelters. I live with four animals who were rescued from shelters.”

“[NKLA] is a high goal but a goal we must strive toward. There are more than enough homes. We can live in a no-kill Los Angeles."
