High street retailer Debenhams saw its online sales grow by over a third (40 per cent), while its mobile growth was up by 85 per cent.

In releasing an update in its sales performance for a period of 16 weeks up to 22 June, Debenhams chief executive Michael Sharp described the results as “robust” and the online growth of sales as “strong.”

The multi-channel offer from the company saw an overall growth online across a 42 week period of 43.9 per cent, while its online premium beauty market share stood at 31.9 per cent it claimed.

It’s mobile channel, as with many other retailers, was found to be its fastest growing channel at 85 per cent during the 16 week period, while the company also said that it was on course to deliver its proposed next day delivery service in September.

Sharp added: "We have managed the business to reflect the market conditions, with a strong focus on stocks, margins and costs. We are also making good progress on the four pillars of our strategy to build a leading international, multi-channel brand. As a result, at this stage we remain comfortable with the range of market expectations for profit before tax for the year as a whole. "

The company’s plans to turn its Oxford Street store into its international flagship outlet is also expected to create 430 new jobs when it opens in December.
