Qantas was also named number one in the Australia-Pacific rankings.

Virgin Australia was ranked 13th world-wide and won the accolade of Australia-Pacific’s best airline staff service.

Last year Qantas dropped out of the top ten for the first time, to number 15.

The World Airline Awards are collated from surveys of more than 18 million passengers.

Emirates was named global Number One. No airlines from the US or Europe appeared in the Top 10.

“Skytrax is a leading indicator of passenger satisfaction. For both Qantas and Jetstar Airways to be recognised as two of the best reflects our investment in creating great travel experiences,” said Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce.

“We now have one of the youngest fleets of any legacy airline in the world. We have invested in more training, new lounges and better on-board products. We pride ourselves on safety and on being the most on-time airline in Australia. The Skytrax result shows how these efforts add up to create a superior experience for passengers."

The top ten comprises:

1. Emirates (Flight test: business class)

2. Qatar Airways (Flight test: business class)

3. Singapore Airlines (Flight test: economy class)

4. ANA All Nippon Airways

5. Asiana Airlines

6. Cathay Pacific (Flight test: premium economy class)

7. Etihad Airways (Flight test: business class)

8. Garuda Indonesia (Flight test: business class)

9. Turkish Airlines

10. Qantas (Flight test: business class)
