An online petition campaigning for Google to remove a ‘gay cure’ app from Google Play has nearly reached its target of 150,000 signatures in less than a fortnight.

The campaign by equality website All Out currently has almost 135,000 signatures, as it aims to campaign for Google to remove the Setting Captives Free app from its app store.

The app claims to be a 60-day course that helps homosexuals learn how to stop being gay.

According to the description of the app on Google Play; “Our Christ-centered courses are free of charge and help people just like you escape impurity, over-eating, substance abuse, gambling, smoking and more. Join the more than 500,000 people who have benefited from Setting Captives Free. We’re glad you’re here, and we’re here to help!”

The campaign, which began on 29 May, pressured Apple into removing the iOS version of the app from the iTunes store within 24 hours of beginning, however Google has yet to follow suit.
