BSkyB is set to introduce a price cuts to its broadband packages in a bid to offset the competition from the introduction of free-to-view sports channel BT Sport into the market.

The Sunday Telegraph reports that the cuts will be announced early this week ahead of BT Sport going live in August with three new channels, including live coverage of Barclays Premier League games.

BT Consumer’s commercial director Peter Oliver welcomed the cuts being introduced by Sky claiming that the broadcaster had ‘grossly overcharged’ sports fans.

Enders Analysis previously described the launch of BT Sport as ‘not a game changer’ instead claiming that the ‘main damage to Sky’ would come from elevate rights costs, and risk of further inflation when it comes to the next major renewal of the rights in three years time.
