Burger King has appointed Starcom to manage its £40m European media planning and buying business following a four-way competitive pitch.

The deal will see Starcom, which already holds the fast food chain’s US account, handle all activity across Burger King's key European markets in the UK, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The news, which concludes the media planning and buying review that kicked-off earlier this year, with UK billings estimated at £15m and combined billings across all the markets exceeding £40m.

Burger King’s vice president, marketing and communications, Axel Schwan, said Starcom has been selected as its "strategic and creative media partner", adding that the agency will "support the re-positioning of the business and the future success and growth of the Burger King brand".

Stewart Easterbrook, CEO of Starcom MediaVest Group UK, said: "It’s a great achievement for Starcom to land the majority of the European Burger King media business and is testament to the stellar work the agency has been producing this year.

"We are passionate about creating truly meaningful brand experiences for consumers and are ready to do this to support Burger King EMEA’s exciting and ambitious growth plans."

Initiative was the incumbent agency on the account.
