The Stuart Hall investigation launched by the BBC will be led by retired High Court judge Dame Linda Dobbs DBE, who will investigate the conduct of the disgraced It’s a Knockout presenter while working for the corporation.

Hall pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting 13 girls between the ages of nine to 17 last month, with 12 victims expected to sue the BBC for compensation.

The BBC today announced that the ‘freestanding investigation’ would be led by Dobbs after Dame Janet Smith, who is leading the investigation into the conduct of Jimmy Savile, was unable to do so due to a potential conflict of interest issue. However, the findings of the Stuart Hall investigation will be considered when Dame Janet Smith reaches her conclusions.

Dobbs, who has been appointed by the BBC Executive Board, will report directly to BBC director general Tony Hall.
