Peter Gillespie, sales director for S1Now is set to become the new advertising director for Newsquest (Herald & Times).

Gillespie, who has also held the post of managing director of search.co.uk and UTV Radio’s TalkRadio, will take up his new position from 5 August, The Drum understands.

Gillespie confirmed that he would take up the role following Julia Arthur’s move back to her position as group head of training and development at Newsquest after a year’s secondment to head up the publisher’s sales team.

“After three very successful years with s1, the opportunity to take on the challenge offered within our sister publishing division was too much to resist,” said Gillespie.

Explaining his move from online platform S1, owned by Newsquest (Herald & Times), Gillespie said: “The Herald & Evening Times aren’t just ‘print’ They are great media brands with huge audiences in print and online, with huge opportunities to develop on those audience relationships, via great content, into powerful new multi-media solutions for advertisers. Well over one million people love these brands, consume them via numerous platforms and value the information they provide. The challenge is in further developing those newer platforms for this growing audience and in communicating the new ways in which clients and advertisers can access those audiences in a more coherent, integrated way. I am really looking forward to getting started.”

At the time of writing it was not clear whether S1 had yet begun its search for a successor to Gillespie.
