Google and NASA team up to launch Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab
Google has announced it is teaming up with NASA to launch a Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab to look at how quantum computing could be developed to create artificial intelligence after buying a commercial quantum computer from Canadian-based D-Wave.
Lab: Google has teamed up with NASA for the project
Director of engineering at Google Hartmut Neven said the advanced technology could do anything from curing diseases to furthering search engine capabilities.
"We hope it helps researchers construct more efficient and more accurate models for everything from speech recognition, to web search, to protein folding.
"We actually think quantum machine learning may provide the most creative problem-solving process under the known laws of physics. We're excited to get started with NASA Ames, D-Wave, the USRA (Universities Space Research Association) and scientists from around the world."
The lab will be hosted at NASA's Ames Research Centre in California.
