Upmarket supermarket chain Waitrose has announced a one year extension to its sponsorship of Reading FC, pairing both partners up till the end of the 2014/15 season at least.

Waitrose has sponsored the club since 2008 and is currently the only food retailer in Britain to strike such a deal with a major team.

It sees the Waitrose brand emblazoned across home and away kits and also commits the retailer to supplying food for player’s away matches and provide season ticket holders with on-store special offers.

Waitrose director of marketing, Rupert Thomas, said: "We have established an excellent relationship with the club, which has enabled us to bring our brand to new audiences both locally and nationally. Reading is a true family football club, which shares our same brand values, especially with regards to community engagement. We now look forward to seeing the club challenge for a quick return to the Premier League."

Pat Coyne, commercial director at Reading FC added: "We are absolutely delighted that Waitrose has again extended its contract with us. We are looking forward to building on the successful partnership we have enjoyed over the past four seasons and are proud that our logos will continue to appear alongside one another on our shirts."
