Al Murray joins Planet Rock for new Sunday morning show

Al Murray will host a show from Sunday 26 May

Planet Rock has announced that British comedian and broadcaster Al Murray is to join the Bauer Media owned digital radio station bolstering its presenter line-up and joining the likes of Alice Cooper and Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott.

From Sunday 26 May Murray will present a weekly Sunday morning show entitled ‘Defender of the Planet Rock Tradition’ from 10am-12pm. As well as playing music and hosting regular features Murray’s show will include segments such as ‘Universal Riffs of Power’ celebrating classic guitar riffs, ‘Let There Be Drums’ hailing the best drum beats, and ‘Re-issue, Re-release, Re-born’ looking at the week’s big re-release.

“Combine Al’s talents as a great comedian and experienced broadcaster alongside his love of rock music and drumming skills, and you’ve got a brilliant addition to the Planet Rock team. His show promises to give Planet Rock listeners the perfect start to Sunday mornings,“ said Planet Rock music and content director Ric Blaxill.

Murray added: “As the world faces a relentless assault of cardboard cut-out pop - Planet Rock is the last bastion of amps, riffs and axes, it's an honour to be asked to do my bit.”
