Instagram has introduced a new photo editing tool to make it easier for users to add people and objects to their favourite snaps.

Photos of You meets a long standing passion from Instagramers to @ mention their friends when the desire strikes to add them to a photograph, injecting more personality into their pics rather than just locales and events.

The new software simplifies this process by implementing it at the upload stage; meaning that adding friends, family or even the band members you’re watching as easily as a location or hashtag.

Friends added in such a fashion will receive a notification from Instagram in addition to having the shot added to a Photos of You gallery, a central feature of everyone’s profile which will allow curation of all images you appear in.

This means that you can be spared the promulgation of particularly grisly snaps by adjusting your settings so nothing can be displayed without pre-approval.

Instagram users have until 16 May to familiarise themselves with this new feature before it goes live.
