Creative companies involved in the process to redesign Real Madrid's stadium have been left hanging as the club's former president Roman Calderon has claimed that the process may falter due to Spain's struggling economy.

Bloomberg has reported the comments of Perez as his side fell short of reaching the Champion's League Final tonight (30 April), which could see plans to extend the stadium capacity and the redevelopment of its commercial opportunities folded.

The cost of not reaching the finals of the competition is estimated at around €50m.

The Drum understands that plans were to be promoted through a number if commissions which would have seen creative agencies bring them to live through CG animated film.

Architectural design firm Foster + Partners Madrid has declined to comment on the speculation.
